Sunday, 1/2/11 - Another day off. Shins bothering me a bit and I was leaving to go back east.
Saturday, 1/1/11 - Day off. Shins sore from walking all over the pavement / concrete of San Fran.
Friday, 12/31 - Last run of 2010. Ran along the bay, almost to the Golden Gate Bridge on a gravel path. Felt good.
36 minutes (5.25)
AST - 92.5 miles
Thursday, 12/30 - Ran with cousin. Stopped a few times, was pretty slow. Great views of SF bay.
32:45 (4 miles)
AST - 87.25 miles
Wednesday, 12/29 - Flew into San Francisco. Hung out with uncle for much of day. Didn't run.
Tuesday, 12/28 - Miserable drive back to DC - 7.5 hours. Got an easy 20 minutes in when I got back.
20 minutes (2.75 miles)
AST - 83.25
Monday, 12/27 - Day off. Blizzard conditions. No use trying to run. Would end up hurting myself.
Week's Total Mileage - 12 miles
Week's Total Time Running - 88 minutes 45 seconds
This blog will chronicle my resurgence to running greatness. After open heart surgery in April '08 and a bunch of lingering injuries from college, I'm ready to get myself back to respectable shape and hopefully drop some fast times on the road and track. Really though, I'm just curious to see if I can get going again...

12/20-12/26 Week 4
Sunday, 12/26 - Got run in before blizzard. I probably looked like a tool in my clear racquetball goggles, but they did help with the snow blindness. Felt good and ran fairly quickly again on the same route as yesterday. Right hamstring is feeling a little tight, but overall, good run. Core B after run.
33 minutes (5 miles)
AST 80.5 miles
Saturday, 12/25 - Merry Christmas! Felt great today. Was moving much more quickly than recent days and it felt good. At this early stage can we call this a tempo? Nah...
33 minutes (5 miles)
AST - 75.5 miles
Friday, 12/24 - Day off.
Thursday, 12/23 - Did some running around Wallace and farm behind.
31 minutes (4.25 miles)
AST - 70.5 miles
Wednesday, 12/22 - Down Halleran, north on Willard, west back on Robbins. Very strong wind coming from the north. Just out of curiosity, I timed my last mile without changing much pace and it was 7:09.
30 minutes (4.25 miles)
AST - 66.25 miles
Tuesday, 12/21 - Ran to Wallace and the farm behind it. Wind chill had it below freezing. Body a little stiff/tight. Core A after run.

Monday, 12/20 - Day off ... Always a wise thing to take the day off from running after driving over 640 miles. The Ohio River to Newington, CT is quite a distance.

12/13 - 12/19 Week 3
Monday, 12/13 - Off
Played some basketball. Banked my first shot (a three) off glass and in. Everything was downhill from there because nobody acknowledges the true value of my tough defense. That's all I'll say about my weekly ballin' sesh.
Tuesday, 12/14 - Got my run in on treadmill right before lunch. Took it easy. Treadmills need to be calibrated. They were off by a lot. According to mine, I was running 10 minute/mile pace, but then again, the guy next to me was walking and his treadmill said he was moving at 7 mph. You do the math.
30:00 (~4 miles)
AST - 39.5 miles
Wednesday, 12/15 - Ran Long Boulger. Very windy. Left calf still nagging a bit. Very windy, cold.
33:00 (4.5 miles)
AST - 44 miles
Thursday, 12/16 - Hit up treadmill again. School was let out early because of snow/ice, so it was too treacherous to run outside. I say treacherous, but really that's just the new DC resident in me saying treacherous. That 1-2 inches was just too much for me now. I'm soft.
30:00 (~4 miles)
AST - 48 miles
Friday, 12/17 - Drove to Williamstown, West Virginia for Jobes' race. Day off from running, but was a "hard" day for driving. Hit I-270 North at 3:55 pm... we can call the subsequent 1.5 hours of driving a fartlek workout with the high end being 20 mph.
Saturday, 12/18 - Ran in the Jobes Memorial Race in Williamstown, WV. It was nippley to say the least. I started off with a blistering 10 minute warm up, courtesy of Cic, Hunter, and McKinney. We weren't hammering, that's a lie, but for my first warm up before a "race" since surgery, anything more than sitting down is cruising. I followed the w/u with a 19:03 5k and then a 20 minute cool down (over the bridge into Ohio and quickly back). I originally decided to just run with a friend for fun. We planned on not running hard, but after 8-9 minutes and a bunch of people passing me, including a group of dudes with tight spandex - "tight spandex" is redundant, but I really needed to emphasize the use of this particular spandex - I was forced to make a decision regarding my own manhood. One from the group was wearing really, really short spandex (girl's length potentially?), and upon seeing this and knowing we were running 6:30 pace, I couldn't allow myself lose to them. Instead, I decided to drop the hammer, and although I obviously didn't go all out, my next few miles were somewhere south of 6 minutes. Needless to say, I slammed lots of runners over the last two miles. Do I feel good about myself? The answer to that is ... I always feel good about destroying people at running, even if they are 90, blind, and gimpy. At this point, I'll take 'em where I can get them.
This is way too long an entry, however, I feel obligated to relate what was witnessed at a bar in Marietta, OH this evening. A lady testing the 250 lb barrier was doing the dirtiest dancing up against a wall. Just her, the spotlight, and the bricks. Intimate. Absolutely nasty, yet mesmerizing at the same time. Some really skinny dude (acting on a bet?) went up to get down with it. She put his hands in unmentionable places on her body. Her shirt also came completely unbuttoned and her boobs were hanging out all over the place in her size JJJ bra. The best part was the face this guy made. Priceless. He may have been concerned Shamu was going to eat him. Totally hot. When the bartender called for last call, he said he was going to get them drinks, but he never returned. We probably stood there and watched for 45 minutes. Molz and I were tempted, but I guess we weren't strong-willed enough (or drunk enough?) to conquer the beast.
49:00 (~7.25 miles)
AST - 55.25 miles
Sunday, 12/19 - Quick, easy 20 minutes in the morning. Yesterday, hamstrings felt slightly overextended. I told DP not to let me run down those kids... Anyway, the legs loosened up with the run. We left Brenda's at 12:20 and I walked in the door at home in Newington, 640 miles later, at 11:00 PM (actually driving time, 9:25). It was good to see Brenda, John, Kristen and the rest of the Jobes family and friends.
Never easy going there, though.

20 minutes (2.75 miles)
AST 18.75 miles
Wednesday 12/8 - Once again, ran into parents and such. Was about 5 minutes short on run.
25 minutes (3.5 miles)
AST 22.25 miles
Thursday 12/9 - Off
Friday 12/10 - Ran Long Boulger, but took a bit of a detour. Left calf tight through much of the run. Lifted and did abs after.
36:25 (5 miles)
AST 27.25 miles
Saturday 12/11 - Ran to canal with Ray. Weather warmer than it has been. A little over 40 degrees. Left calf still nagging a bit. Took it very easy.
31:40 (4 miles)
AST 31.25
Sunday 12/12 - Ran down to canal and a little more so I could hit 20 miles for the week. Not until after did I realize I needed another half mile to hit 20. It rained last night/this morning so it was soggy and muddy. Lower 40's. Also, I wanted to point out that while watching the Redskins game, I keep seeing this awesome Dodge commercial with George Washington in a Dodge Challenger defeating British troops. It reminds me of this even more amazing poster.

11/29/2010 - 12/5/2010 Week 1
Monday 11/29 - Day off for running, but balled full court 5 on 5 for the first time in years. It was pretty ugly. Considering I haven't shot a basketball in years either, I shouldn't be surprised. But this thing is weekly. Two months from now, watch out.
Lifted/abs during afternoon.
Tuesday 11/30 - Ran on campus down Sorrel, Iron Gate, then through Boulger Center. Felt like crap from basketball, pretty winded, too. New pair of shoes.
29 minutes, (~3.5 - 4 miles)
AST - 4 miles
Wednesday 12/1 - Ran down to canal and back. Felt fairly crappy again. Physically, feel OK. IT is good, slight discomfort in right achilles, nothing big. Been working on strides/minute ... average about 165-168 right now.
31 minutes, (4 miles)
AST - 8 miles
Thursday 12/2 - Off
Lifted/abs during free period in morning.
Friday, 12/3 - Off - Had to deal with DMV, then drive to Richmond. I finally got DC plates. Slightly sad to see the CT ones go.
Saturday 12/4 - Ran in Richmond with Molz, Hunter, Hille. Ran around St. Christopher's, Patterson, Three Chopt area.
30 minutes, (4 miles)
AST - 12 miles
Sunday 12/5 - Down to the canal and back. First half with Dave. Very windy.
